Amitone belongs to a class of medications known as tricyclic antidepressants. It influences brain chemicals that might be out of balance. Amitone is prescribed to alleviate symptoms of depression.
Take Amitone exactly as your doctor has directed. Do not take more than the prescribed amount or use it for a longer duration than recommended. Always adhere to the instructions on your prescription label.
If you are scheduled for any surgical procedure, inform the surgeon beforehand that you are taking Amitone. You may need to temporarily discontinue the medication.
Do not stop taking Amitone without consulting your doctor first. You might be required to gradually reduce your dosage before completely ceasing the medication. Abruptly stopping Amitone could lead to uncomfortable side effects. It may take as long as 4 weeks of using this medication before you notice an improvement in your symptoms. For optimal results, continue taking Amitone as prescribed.
If your symptoms fail to improve after 4 weeks of treatment, talk to your doctor. Store Amitone at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
Possible side effects include: nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, loss of appetite; dry mouth, unpleasant taste; dizziness, drowsiness, or fatigue; difficulty concentrating; nightmares; blurred vision, headaches, and tinnitus; breast swelling (in both genders); as well as decreased libido, impotence, or issues achieving orgasm.
An Amitone overdose may present with symptoms such as: seizures, confusion, hallucinations, drowsiness, restlessness, vomiting, low blood pressure, difficulty concentrating, rapid or irregular heart rate, dilated pupils and other vision problems, dizziness, exhaustion, and unresponsiveness.
If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. It’s crucial not to take a double dose of this medication.
